Last night we had a Champaign toast as we crossed the Antarctic circle at about 10:30pm and we won’t see darkness for the next three weeks.
I started the morning with yoga surrounded by tall snowy peaks in a the pristine Marguerite Bay. Today is the first landing on Horseshoe island, Antarctica. We ate a hurried breakfast and then geared up to make our first landing ashore. The weather was perfect: sunny, 33 degrees, and light winds. On Horseshoe Island, there is a British research hut that was abandoned in the 1980s that we got to walk through that was super cool. It was a mini time capsule that was definitely larger than my first house (not too shabby!).
There were two Waddell seals on the beach lounging in the sun and a few Adele penguins waddling around on the sea ice.
After the landing, we made our way back to the ship to swap out for the kayaks and sloped out into the clam waters. We paddled around by the ship and saw an iceberg calve and splash giant chunks into the water ahead of us. Needless to say, we turned around pretty quickly because it was a huge berg and we didn’t want to get caught up if it flipped over.
We’ve been told that internet isn’t guaranteed past the Antarctic Circle and Starlink has not been tested this far south. Hopefully I can keep posting, but it might be more sporadic than I would like.
Hopefully I can post again soon.

Wow! I know how much you wanted to see the icebergs but watching it break off must’ve been super cool! The temp and weather look amazing. Can’t wait to hear more and see more pictures!
Amazing pictures! Looking forward to seeing more! Love your Jacket! 😁
Awesome!,,,,
More penguins please!
Very cool! But sad the iceberg calved … presumably due to global warming. Send pictures of penguins!
Nice pictures
